Patrick on the lack of decent reasoning in WS-* world:

It is precisely this lack of rigor that has failed ws-* from the start

If this problem were confined to WS-* it’d be a cause for celebration…..sadly it’s pretty much everywhere in software these days.

Update: Was wading through my bloglines feeds and forgot about something Bill said a while back which is relevant.

True. It took CORBA a long time to even approach reason-ability. WS started simple, headed down several wrong paths, and wound up in the weeds. HTTP by comparison is simple and reasonably well specified.

If there were some way to quantify the domain and range of WS and HTTP/Internet standards I suspect the bang for the buck would be obvious.

Or if there were a “marketing BS detector” that could consume specs and spit out a number…
